Detail of the back of my stole, left side. These ships were not intended to represent Columbus in any way, but to enhance the lighthouse representation. Modern ships would not have such striking detail in the beadwork.
The lighthouse stands as a beacon warning the sailor of dangerous waters. As long as the sailors head the warning and maintain a safe distance from the beacon, they would remain in safe waters whether day or night.
